A short catch today...

Image
This morning heard the horn of an F Unit of the KJRY in Canton so  throw on some clothes and hop in the car to go find it. I headed it off just west of Canton by a mile where i film it then go another mile or so down the line where i take photographs. This makes up for the crumby sunset photographs and video I took the other day.  The joys of fall approaching it gets dark alot earlier. Oh well.  It was lead by Prex #1750 with #1761,#1752 and #2003 following it.  A few days ago on the 11th I caught the eastbound but it was getting dark by the time they came back from La Harpe so didn't succeed much in better quality.  Oh well you win some you lose some so it's no big deal. This morning's KJ & Cuba adventure

Image
This morning was expecting a Keokuk Junction Railway train to come through but was waiting a while so i left to go down to Lewistown then up to Cuba back to Canton.  The Railline runs along the highway between Canton and Cuba.  I caught it around Wee ma Tuk.  Then I went further down and filmed it just east of Cuba by a mile. Before that explored a little where the old Fulton County Narrow Gauge ran in the City of Cuba.  It crossed a city street ( 2nd avenue or street I think) and went  right along the Cuba Cemetery then  behind it.  The railroad bed is still viseable.  That stretch was abandoned in 1977 so still pretty fresh.  Then south of Cuba i stopped and took pictures of the crossing signal box where the tracks once crossed Route 97.  I think this was a spur that went to a Coal Mine atleast it looked like it by a few maps and the main went  a little west then up.  The main was in that area though I do know that much. ...

Railfanning on the second and the third

Image
The past two days did a little railfanning although on September 2nd I didn't have much luck. I did manage to nail a BNSF loaded coal train heading south.  I  almost missed it at Bushnell so I got ahead of it and filmed at Adair off Route 136. Yesterday I went to Galesburg and tried my luck at a few spots I never tried before. I caught quite a few BNSF including one with War Bonnet #654 in the lead and it ended with a transfer caboose which I personally don't see often  maybe two other times. Then I film an Amtrak that departed the Galesburg station.  All and all not too bad even the slow day which I sat at Macomb for a while and didn't see anything so i go film that one at Adair after catching it in Bushnell.
