Blizzard that was the catalyst for a near death experience.

This is one of my last real long blogs as i'm going to try something new and make railroad related and other blog posts shorter. I will say this much I thought 1993 was the year of hell then came 2011 a day I am still dealing the aftermath from.  The reason this might be a long or medium blog is because so much happened some of which was told and don't even remember.  The hospital stay was atleast five months in multiple Peoria hospitals then came physical therapy to walk again and a short stay in a nursing home for recovery and training on how to deal with the tracheostomey on our own.  This post as well as my father's were one of those topics it's unavoidable and really cannot be shortened because both are stories that need to be told.  I am only venting about this as well as telling my story because I sometimes get tired of being asked what happened. I usually say it's along story and cut it short with pneumonia happened.

Even before the blizzard of 2011 I was already sick.  I kept on fishing out on the dock as we were living at Wee ma tuk  near Cuba at the time.  The weather was getting cooler and I kept fishing for fun and to provide my family with food.  Well i contribute the cold weather for getting sick to begin with as well as other stuff one of which you have to turn back time a decade to the days of working at Intermet that nuked everyones lungs. Even that wasn't the only cause.  Anyway not to ramble it started off as bronchitus something i started getting while at Intermet Havana Foundy.  That place was the catalyst for several people's health issues and early deaths.  This is beside the point the bronchitus I tried to cure with cold medicine. At the time my doctor moved her office to Rushville and delayed in going due to being stubborn ( A infamous May trait).  It would start to turn into pneumonia as the month or two past.  I was coughing really bad for the longest time and breathing was crap.  Shocker!

In Febuary 2011 a blizzard struck dumping 19 inches of snow at our place and much of the area had just about the same. I was warned not to shovel snow being sick.  I thought I recovered enough and I got impatient wanting to go somewhere and go into Canton.  I  started shovelling digging out a good chunk then my brother n law and his cousin helped.  After that several days later i started getting sick again.  My cough got worse and I started getting high fevers. One day the fever reached 104 so called an ambulence. I passed out in the ambulence and do not remember anything after that.  I was told I almost died and had to be revived.  Graham Hospital sent me over to Peoria where I was in intensive care for a while and was in a medically induced coma.  They woke me a few times to do somethings but all of it was a blur to me. I was in the Coma for a month.

In the Coma had  weird dreams and when I woke up someone left the news on and the Earthquake Tsuami thing and Nuclear disaster was going down in Japan. I remember worrying how contaminated everyone's air would be now. That was the least of worries.  I woke up finding a trach in my throat which was still sore. I wasn't allowed to eat or drink by mouth and had a feeding tube.  I had memory lost for a time not knowing who I was, wondered if Dad was alive, thought my husband left me and thought i was homeless. I also didn't know where my mom was to contact her. It would all return after a while.  I couldn't move and was so weak for a while. They started physical therapy by starting with my hands and arms. After a while started physical therapy on my legs then started getting me to walk again.  I started on a walker then a cane before walking on my own again.  I was told I had various problems where I got sick and almost died.  My kidney's were shutting down as well as other organs, and I couldn't breathe on my own and was on a ventilator.
Kidney dialysis was done for a while and the ventilator was weened off of and given a trach.

They tried capping it but i couldn't breath.  My air way had narrowed quite a bit. To this day still have it and it's a pain in my neck literally. Atleast I'm alive but the complications can really suck.
Lesson learned don't wait on illnesses and do not be stubborn. Everyone should learn from this. The hospitals did an excellent job keeping me alive then aided in therapy.   I have breathing problems now and have to deal with mucus plugs and breathing issues but still alive so whatever. It sucks but it is what it is. Vomitting hurts and so does suctioning the mucus plugs out also it's disgusting so embarrassed by it especially if i bleed or cough in public or in front of friends. That blizzard that set this in motion was terrible event and i hope we never experience one that bad again.  I also learned to not put treatment off. You live and learn in life and after almost dying twice from that then bounced back you kind of humble yourself not to be as stubborn.  I tried to make this as short as possible though there is more that could be said about this year.
