Fairview and Parrville Coal mines
I have yet to go up here to investigate but i have dug up some dates and locations for these I will get around to trying to find. There was a Fairview mine under the Fairview Coal Company that lasted a year from 1937-1938. Later i'm guessing same general location a few years the Flamingo Mine opened up in 1942 and lasted until 1964. After 1964 Peabody Coal Company took over and the mine was named Bright Star and operated under this company and name until 1970. In 1970 someone was killed here proving that mining is a dangerous job. I'm not sure if this is why of the company changes this year but in 1970 Midland Coal Company took over and was named Elm No. 2 Bright Star mine. It closed two years later in 1972. The maps show the M&STL later C&NW had a spur down to this mine so i'm guessing they served them for a while. At some point CB&Q probably served them as well as they served another near by mine called Parrville.
Parrville was a mining community and a coal mine west north west of Fairview that had been around for a number of years spanning from the late 1800's til 1925. It started off as the Nicholson mine in 1886 which lasted until 1896 and the company name was William Nicholson. The company name changed to Nicholson & Taylor in 1896 and lasted a year until 1897. After that it ws Taylor & Peck Mine from 1897 until 1902. In 1902 it became Essex & Fritz No. 1 Parrville mine so the name Parrville came to be in 1902. This lasted until 1908. Then the Coal Creek Mining Company took over and changed the name of the Mine to Parrville and ran from 1908-1922. In 1922 Frankovich & Brothers company took over from 1922 until 1925 but the name Parrville remained. A little community sprung up around the mine where mining houses for the workers were built some of which ended up in Fairview later on. This mine was served by the Fulton County Narrow Gaugue until 1905 or so then CB&Q took over and graded it to standard. A spur road from the main line was built at this mine running along the north bank of Coal Creek for two mines here. In 1925 the mine shut down and I don't see anymore mention of Parrville after that. The workers probably moved onto other mines or other means of employments. The homes built there were moved to Fairview and the community ceased to exist.
I have yet to get out to this area but will and when I find more information about either mines will add later on. :)
